You will often have in hand the destiny of anyone unlucky. Always acted with integrity, humanity and you will never have reason to regret. " When he reached
Enzo Lentini had the good fortune to find now in many of his senior colleagues, who had to be his master, as many "grandchildren" of his grandfather Samson, people who worked for years just following the principles of respect and attention towards anyone: Commissioner Edward Burrascano Marshal Gentile, the sergeant Blasco, by Brigadier Matarazzo, Porto appointment (during the process to "Graziella smoked the Alpha and Conference on the facts in Vaddàra I was able to collect several witnesses recounting how both ancient and solid tradition of Lentini exponents of the DP led to dialogue and understanding. I speak of 1966 and 1948). The forty-crossed by
Laezza in uniform was a period of extraordinary change. And he, a little 'for personal sensitivity, a little' because every day became more lentinese (in '74 he married Lucia Cardillo, daughter of another leading player in those years, the cav. Alfio, craftsman executive, assessor and town councilor) I was witness to careful and aware. In
Lentini '72, was a city, if I may say so, very "orderly": the Church (the parishes of St. Alfio
of SSTrinità, St. Luke's, Holy Cross, with Father D'Asta La Rosa and father, father
Di Stefano, Raddino father, father Cantella) could to aggregate hundreds of young people with various cultural and sports activities
, in addition to the call of faith. The unions could count about 5-6000 members and their influence was not limited only the scope of work. The parties were real democratic participation and community centers, schools of thought and behavior, gyms for training people involved in and aware. Of course, each with their own views, often very distant from each other (Communist Party, Democrazia Cristiana, Partito Socialista, Movimento Sociale), ma con un comune denominatore: quello che oggi, come fosse una “scoperta”della Lega Nord, viene chiamato “rapporto con il territorio”.
Gli anni ’90 si caratterizzarono per There are two aspects: the institutional, the stability of the Juntas Raiti, made possible by the new electoral law (direct election of the Mayor), which gave great impetus to that in the past had been taken of the distinctive profile of Lentini: democracy and popular participation in terms of the desire for rebirth of the community, a very active, sometimes brilliant, sometimes confused, in search of new opportunities for landlocked ways (tourism based on folk festivals, a show of stories and sacred traditions, etc. ..) Another known characteristic of this phase, positive note for me in every way,
was the birth of the culture of land conservation, primarily about the possible presence of harmful products, given the high incidence of leukemia and cancer diseases.
In the latter activity that involved most of the city and of which the city administration was strong promoter, the Enzo played (and continues to play, to be precise) a key role. This time not as a policeman but as the founder and president of the Children's Leukaemia "Manuela and Michael" -
As we all know in 87 he suffered the greatest tragedy that can be a father losing a daughter, Manuela, precisely leukemia.
was another time (this time bitter) to know the strength and generosity of man. He did not shut himself in his grief, but together with other parents just unlucky (the Ninian, father and mother of Michael) gave rise to an association that is now over twenty years in history, not only the city, the number and the quality of interventions for children with leukemia and their families.
But that's another story and I'm sure there Enzo "force" to talk about it for a long time. Today is the greeting addressed
grateful to the cop who has never raised his voice nor pulled anyone who has ever been effective without the hard way. A witness and a protagonist of the last forty years, always aware of the delicacy of his role and importance of living it in consonance with the community. The servant of the State, while everything around him changed, and not always for the better, has always maintained the consistency of the "proximity police" and humanity of the grandson of Don Nicola.
For now I can not say more than this: "Thank you, dear Enzo, as lentinese and friend. I hope that many will follow your example. "
